Experts on hand to help with big uni decisions

Dedicated clearing centres, staffed by academic experts, will be opening this month at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) to help provide prospective students with the knowledge they need to make one of the biggest decisions of their lives.

Admissions staff and experts in a wide range of subjects will be manning phone lines throughout August and September, and clearing centres in Chelmsford and Cambridge will be open from 7am today (Thursday 15 August), A-Level results day, until September for people who would prefer to talk through their options in person.

ARU offers a wide range of courses across four faculties during Clearing – from Architecture to Zoology, Marketing to Midwifery – and is expecting a large number of inquiries as students receive their A-Level results.

Last year, ARU received more than 2,000 calls across A-Level results day and the following day, but the majority of Clearing applications came through its self-apply online service.

Professor Roderick Watkins, Vice Chancellor of ARU, said: “Clearing is not just for 18-year-olds receiving their A-Level results.  The way people apply to university has changed significantly over recent years, with more and more people of all ages and backgrounds using clearing to find the right course for them,

“At ARU, we have lecturers, current students and professional admissions staff available throughout clearing to help guide applicants through what can otherwise seem a daunting process.  That way people can be confident they will have all the information they need to make an informed decision about what is best for them.”

More information about Clearing, including FAQs and a list of available courses, is available at aru.ac.uk/clearing. The Clearing hotline is open from 7am until 8pm on A-Level results day, on 01245 686868.
