Explore Indie Cambridge - Re:Fresh

With the help of Indie Cambridge - the community of ‘real’ Cambridge - Cambridge Network continues its weekly exploration of the best independent shops, cafés, restaurants, people, businesses, venues and events in Cambridge and the surrounding area. This week: Re:Fresh.

Recognising the fragility of our planet, many of us are living more sustainably; buying organic, going vegan or banishing plastic. But how easy is that to do if you regularly have salon treatments? Very, if you’re a customer of Re:Fresh, a contemporary organic salon, where almost everything is eco-friendly, recyclable and vegan, and the products are free of damaging chemical additives. Even the business model is sustainable; Re:Fresh’s talented hairdressers, beauty therapists and nail technicians are all sole traders, united in their desire to work professionally and ethically.

Located on Cambridge’s vibrant Mill Road, Re:Fresh launched spring 2018, headed up by Hollie Meddings, a specialist in Organic Colour systems for hair, and Vanessa Evans, a beauty and complementary therapist, with more than 20 years’ experience.
Trained by Errol Douglas in London, Hollie worked as a session stylist with celebrities including Michael Bublé, Holly Valance and the late Keith Flint (The Prodigy). She switched to chemical-free hair products after being diagnosed with skin cancer. Since recovered, she specialises in modern cuts and colours, using ammonia, paraben, sulphate and silicone-free colours, shampoos and conditioners. Fellow hairdressing professionals at Re:Fresh are Chloe, Todd, Stuart and James, who each have their own specialisms.

Former civil servant and beauty guru Vanessa offers everything from Swedish massage to bespoke facials, using organic British brand MONU, renowned for its mineral-based products, packed with plant extracts and aroma oils. Working alongside her for 15 years is Soraya, a nail technician and expert in traditional Brazilian hot wax and threading hair removal.

Completing the team is fellow nail technician Li, who uses Bio Sculpture Gel and Evo gel, which are organic, vegan and animal cruelty free. Though the staff are all indies, there’s a real team spirit at Re:Fresh. Pop in for a top-to-toe eco-friendly pamper. There’s late night opening, so no excuses!
