Extreme book signings

Cambridge author Clive Oppenheimer demonstrates his passion for his subject and just how far he’s willing to go for a book signing.

Clive Oppenheimer is the author of Eruptions that Shook the World, which explores geological, historical, archaeological and palaeoenvironmental records (such as ice cores and tree rings) to tell the stories behind some of the greatest volcanic events of the past quarter of a billion years.

The volcanologist makes regular trips to Antarctica for his research, and while out there has done some 'extreme book signings': atop the crashed helicopter near the research station and at the lip of Mount Erebus crater, the second highest volcano in Antarctica.

Clive has been closely involved in the BBC's Volcano live project, to be broadcast in July.
