Dillan, a ten-year old boy from Cambridge has set himself the massive challenge of climbing the three biggest mountains in the UK to raise money for children who are struggling with their emotions.
Dillan and his dad Sajith plan, if the Covid restrictions allow, to climb Scafell Pike, Snowdon and Ben Nevis during the school summer holiday this year. Sajith, researched some local charities to fundraise for, but left the final decision to Dillan, who chose the Cambridgeshire charity, Blue Smile, saying ‘I want to help kids my own age’.
Blue Smile works with 250 Cambridgeshire pupils every year who are struggling with difficult emotions. The charity uses fun, art-based therapies to help children feel better about themselves, so they can unlock their potential to learn and lead happier lives. Sajith agrees that Dillan’s decision to raise money in aid of Blue Smile was a good one, remembering his own childhood when there was very little support available for children struggling with mental health difficulties.
Dillan and his family (he has two younger brothers) are very keen on outdoor activities. Dillan has already cycled 100 miles through France in 2019, and cycled around the Peak District and in Holland. He is looking forward to choosing kit for himself and his Dad, and deciding what snacks to pack in their rucksacks.
