The programme will run twice in 2021 in ‘virtual classrooms’, to give more young adults the opportunity to gain valuable careers information and skills in a year where it is needed more than ever. The programme will run twice, once in April and May and another in July. All sessions will run from 4.30 pm until 6.00 pm.
Every year First Intuition centres across the country invite local students to come along to one of their FREE Accountancy Academies, to find out more about the accounting industry and the careers available within it. This year the Accountancy Academy will take place online via a series of short webinars. These sessions are open to all and will be beneficial to any school or college student interested in pursuing roles in accountancy and finance. A helpful video about the event can also be viewed here.
The academies give students the opportunity to meet potential employers and ask any questions they may have about the industry or getting employed into it. First Intuition appreciates that over the past 12 months young adults have not had the usual level of support and advice regarding careers information. Schools have had to push back careers events, CV building and interview training, as well as education about alternative routes into employment. As a result, this year’s Accounting Academy will run sessions specifically focused on improving CVs, interview preparation, and how to be a standout candidate.
Five 90-minute sessions will be held between 4.30 pm and 6.00 pm on the following dates:
- 20th, 22nd, 27th, 29th April, 4th May
- 6th, 8th, 13th, 15th, 20th July
The Accountancy Academy will cover the following topics:
- Introduction to accountancy and routes to get started
- Accountancy skills – with some practical exercises
- Workplace skills for accountancy roles
- CV and Interview preparation
- Employer Forum (Q&A)
Previous First Intuition Accountancy Academies have proved to be extremely beneficial to aspiring accountants.
One attendee stated “If I did not attend the First Intuition talk in my school and the Accountancy Academy, I would not have applied at all to accountancy apprenticeships. Once again, thank you for all your work at First Intuition. I look forward to recommending the Accountancy Academy younger students.”
Attending the First Intuition Accounting Academy is recognised by employers as a beneficial activity that can strengthen students’ applications.
