Fungi are critical to the production of many of our foods including bread, cheese, soy, marmite, wine, beer and even chocolate.
Dr Ali Ashby, coordinator of the event and fungus researcher said 'we want the public to help celebrate the wonder and mystery of this most fascinating kingdom of living things and to understand just how important they are to our everyday lives'
The events will offer a chance to go on a fungal foray with an expert; to grow your own fungus; explore why fungi are both friends and foes and to speak to scientists about their research to find out why the continued study of fungi is so vitally important to us.
There will be a wide variety of fund fungal activities for all the family to get stuck into, including the first ever Fungal Fashions display and a UK map grown from mycelium. People can find out how to use Facebook to help fight Ash Dieback, grow edible mushrooms from toilet rolss and play fungal supermarket challenge.
Come and explore at the Cambridgbe Science Centre, 18 Jesus Lane, Cambridge 12-13 October Normal admissions apply.
