The end-of-course exhibition marks an important stage of personal and professional development, showcasing work by the masters students that is underpinned by rigorous research and experimentation.
The annual show brings together students graduating from the MA Computer Games Development (Art), MA Fashion Design, MA Film & Television Production, MA Fine Art, MA Graphic Design & Typography, MA Illustration & Book Arts, MA Photography and MA Printmaking programmes at Cambridge School of Art.

The MA Fashion Design student impressed the judges with her eye-catching “Flawsome” textiles, and some of Daria’s range of sustainable leather clothing (right) will be on show in the Ruskin Gallery.
Daria, who hopes to grow her Flawsome brand after graduation, said: “I essentially collect the leather off-cuts that manufacturers don’t use, or leather from old sofas and chairs, and handstitch them into a canvas that becomes my fabric. All garments are made from leather waste and I exploit the flaws I find in scraps to help me generate a textile pattern.
“I hardly ever make a final piece that looks like something drawn beforehand. The sketches are just a starting point, a guideline, but the natural flaws of the scraps often take my work into a different direction ending up with a completely unexpected design inspired by the flaws and imprint of the material.”
Another student exhibiting in the MA Degree Show (as shown in image top of page) is Emma Copley. The MA Fine Art student, who took part in the Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year competition in 2015 and was commissioned to paint a portrait for a British Airways advertising campaign earlier this year, is celebrating after landing her first solo exhibition in London.
The Cambridge-based artist has been selected as the artist in residence at The Hospital Club, a private member’s club in Covent Garden, London. Emma will also be exhibiting closer to home at the new Gallery 9 on Norfolk Street in Cambridge next month, alongside a number of other recent Anglia Ruskin graduates.
Emma explained: “Each painting I make is inspired by everyday life: my dark sink full of dishes with the sun coming in the window, or my son and daughter sitting with their backs to me, watching TV.
“Digital interfaces and image printing techniques are beginning to affect how I make my work, influencing the colours I use and the images I work from. Through research and experimentation with painting and drawing methods, I aim to create work that will either stand-alone, or fuel a new beginning.”
Flare, the 2017 MA Degree Show, runs until Thursday 14 September, is open to the public and entry is free. Further information is available at http://www.anglia.ac.uk/arts-law-and-social-sciences/ruskin-gallery/flare-ma-degree-show-2017
