Lord Williams retired as the 104th Archbishop in 2012 following ten years leading the Church of England. The following year, Anglia Ruskin awarded him an Honorary Doctor of Pastoral Theology.
Lord Williams said: “Thinking about war has got even more complicated than it used to be in recent years, and this talk will attempt to spell out why – and also to ask what kind of moral orientation on war we need to develop in an age in which the landscape is changing so fast.
“Can we in fact salvage something of the ‘just war’ tradition of moral reasoning? I believe we can, but we shall need some new perspectives to do so.”
Lord Williams is also a life peer in the House of Lords. He is fluent in nine languages and has had works published on themes including politics, Christianity and theology. In 1990 he was elected a Fellow of the British Academy. He is Master of Magdalene College, Cambridge.
The event will take place at 6.30pm on Monday 24 March at the East Road campus. If you would like to attend, email nicola.mclaren@anglia.ac.uk or call 0845 196 4713.
