AGENDA & PROGRAMME 3-4 June 2014, Cambridge University
In its 6th edition in Cambridge since 2009, Cleanpower & Smart Grids Conference 2014 covers fracturing more thoroughly than ever, with a full session devoted to the topic.
It is a unique session (second of four conference sessions during the day) in that eminent scientists from Cambridge and Warwick top and tail the discussion covering the scientific risks of the process and the experiences from the US shale gas industry respectively and dispassionately.
Between these two talks are talks by the Marieke Beckmann from the National Physical Labs on the measurement of gases and other materials from the process, some of which are GHGs, a talk from Dr Tony Smith on the social implications of this industry, and a talk from an industrialist with decades of experience in mining & resources, who has been successful with shale gas extraction in the EU (Poland).
"As organisers, we do not take a position on such areas as fracking, but are keen to provide an intelligent discussion of this hotly debated topic within our platform for energy and grids conferences (SGCP)", said Dr Justin Hayward of Cambridge Investment Research. "But we encourage those interested in the development of the energy industry in the UK and elsewhere to join us on 4 June for this and other interesting sessions."
