Frozen Planet: the making of a landmark BBC wildlife documentary

A unique opportunity to experience unseen footage and images from the landmark BBC series 'Frozen Planet' takes place on Friday 23 March 2012 (6.00 – 7.30pm) at the Bristol Myers Squibb Lecture Theatre, Chemistry Department, University of Cambridge.

In this special public lecture, Alastair Fothergill, Honorary President of the South Georgia Heritage Trust and Executive Producer of The Blue Planet and Planet Earth series, will tell the epic story behind the making of his latest BBC documentary series, Frozen Planet, which looks at the icy wildernesses of the Arctic and Antarctic, including the remote island of South Georgia.

For details, please see the flyer (download PDF below). The early bird discount is only available until Wednesday (29  February).  Tickets can be booked online at www.sght.org .

Proceeds from the lecture will support the South Georgia Heritage Trust’s conservation work on South Georgia. The charity was founded in 2005 to support the preservation of the island's polar, industrial and scientific history; to conserve and raise awareness of the island's natural history through research and public engagement; and to protect native species through practical conservation programmes.

The Trust is currently funding and carrying out a conservation project of global significance: its Habitat Restoration Project aims to remove the invasive rodents which have decimated the island's bird population for over two centuries.
