Green Energy Options (geo) has received certification for the management of information security under the latest international standard, ISO27001:2013 for their smart metering display systems. This covers geo’s leading range of smart energy displays, consumer gateways and Consumer Access Devices.
ISO27001 is an internationally recognised best-practice framework for information security management, and assists in identifying risks to key data and information so that the appropriate controls and processes can be put in place. These include both electronic and physical protection.
Paul Goodyer, COO, commented: “geo has ISO9001 certification for quality management and ISO14001 for environmental management since 2011. We take information security very seriously and it is a key part smart metering rollout in the UK. The addition of ISO27001 includes activities associated with the design, development, supply of geo products for connection to smart meters and gives our customers, business partners and users confidence in geo’s products”.
John Harrison, who carried out the assessment on behalf of LRQA as certifying body, said, "It's a significant achievement for a small, but fast-growing, company - such as geo - to achieve certification. The ISO 27001 standard indicates that geo is now committed, and competent, to manage its own, and its clients, information at appropriate levels of security. Congratulations all round."
