Applications to Anglia Ruskin have increased for three successive years and with high demand expected again this year, staff will again be available to talk through options either at its campuses in Cambridge and Chelmsford from the morning A-Level results are published. The telephone hotline, 01245 686868, is open now, with BTEC students able to discuss their options. Potential students can also view a complete list of available courses online at www.anglia.ac.uk/clearing
Professor Lesley Dobree, Deputy Vice Chancellor at Anglia Ruskin University, said: “If you’ve just received your results and are unsure what to do next, it is well worth keeping an open mind. It’s a good opportunity to find out more about other options that might not have occurred to you before. Our expert staff will be available throughout this time to help you make up your mind.
“Alternatively, perhaps you’ve made a late decision to go to university and just want to find out more – thousands of students take this path and take the chance to study at a vibrant and growing university which has achieved great things in the last year, including being named Entrepreneurial University of the Year by the Times Higher magazine.
“It’s important not to rush into any decisions and make sure you love the city you’re going to be studying in, not just your course.”
Lewis Hadler (pictured above), 28, is set to graduate this year having applied through Clearing to study Law. He said: “Having left my job I decided to enrol on an access course at a local college and wanted to check that this would be enough to allow me to start a degree the following year. Whilst passing ARU I popped in to discuss this at clearing and, to my surprise, was offered an interview where we discussed my background and the reason I wanted to study Law.
“It was a relief to be offered a place on the course as it saved me the time and expense of undertaking an access course. I had always planned to apply to Anglia Ruskin as I live locally and a number of my friends were alumni.
“I had been worried about returning to education as a mature student, but I found that my life experience and the skills I had gained through employment had left me well equipped to excel. The degree itself was fantastic. The teaching was engaging and the staff were supportive and receptive to the needs of a mature student.
“I’m so glad I decided to come to Anglia Ruskin, but more importantly, that I had done so with a clear idea of what I wanted to study, and why. This clear motivation and the support of the teaching staff means that, come October, I will graduate with a First Class Law (Hons) LLB.”
(Image removed)Jack Wray-McCann (right), 20, studies Paramedic Science and came through Clearing last year having studied Politics elsewhere last year. He said: “I was working in control at South East Coast Ambulance Service which sparked my interest in the course, plus my girlfriend was a paramedic. Clearing was a simple process. I had applied to three universities but chose Anglia Ruskin because of the quick decision-making and the clear communication with admissions teams.
“Studying Paramedic Science at Anglia Ruskin has been a good experience. Teaching has been intense but it helps you be prepared when you need to use those skills in a life or death situation.
“When I graduate I am to be a paramedic for two years and then I’d like to go back to South East Coast Ambulance to train to be a critical care paramedic. In the long run I’d want to work toward the intention of becoming an Accident & Emergency doctor.”
Anglia Ruskin’s Clearing hotline is open now and will have extended opening hours from 13 August until 17 September. This includes Saturday 15 August (8am-5pm) and Sunday 16 August (10am-4pm), when the hotline will be open although on-campus Clearing Centres will be closed on the Sunday. On Monday 17 August you will be able to contact the centres from 8am until 8pm, and from Tuesday 18 August the centres will be open between 9am and 5pm, weekdays only.
