Mrs Lipman's name was drawn as the top prize winner by CEO Dr Lynn Morgan, in the Charity’s third raffle of this kind. £35,650 has now been raised for the Charity from its Superdraw raffles.
Mrs Lipman, began taking part with the Charity’s fundraising initiative four years ago, after her husband was cared for by Arthur Rank’s Hospice at Home service. She is considering how she might spend her winnings but is keen to treat her family as she has two children, six grandchildren and two brothers, including one in Cambridge and his wife who have been very good to her since she lost her husband. As she met nurses and staff from Arthur Rank Hospice Charity last week, she said: “I just didn’t believe it when they called and said I had won £2000 on the Summer Superdraw! I’ve never won anything before and there must have been thousands of people who took part. I actually started buying tickets for the raffle after my husband was cared for by the Hospice at Home team from Arthur Rank: it is such a marvellous service. I would encourage anyone to buy tickets for the raffle: not only do you have a chance to win like I have, but the money goes to something which is absolutely brilliant.”
There were 14 prizes in total, with winners of £500, £200, five £100 and six £50 also being drawn at the end of July by staff, volunteers, patients and relatives at the Hospice in Mill Road. Tickets for the Charity’s Superdraw Raffle were £10 each and help the Charity to raise significant funds. Arthur Rank Hospice Charity would like to thank their supporters, including all those who both bought and sold tickets, and are thrilled to announce that those involved have helped to raise a grand total of £12,763.
Donna Talbot, Director of Fundraising and Communications at Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, adds: “More than £12,000 is just an incredible amount to raise from a raffle, and almost double what was raised from our 2014 Superdraw Raffle. We would like to thank all the individuals, businesses and organisations who bought and helped sell tickets, as such a total would be impossible without their very passionate support. To give an idea of how valuable these funds are, £12,000 could pay for: a Thor Laser to aid patients’ with lymphoedema (£4,670); three syringe drivers to help with mobile pain control (£3,300); twelve episodes of Hospice at Home (£3,120); and twelve days of patient transport (£900).”
