Grants for environmental projects now available

Local groups looking to get environmental projects up and running could be in line for a Sustainable City grant from Cambridge City Council.

Expressions of interest are now being sought from groups wanting to run an environmental project in Cambridge from April 2016 onwards, which may benefit from council funding.

The council’s Sustainable City funding of up to £10,000 is available to eligible local, non-profit groups whose environmental projects will help address the council’s environmental objectives.

These objectives, which are set out in the council’s draft Climate Change Strategy 2016-2021, include supporting local residents and businesses to reduce their energy consumption and carbon footprint, and reducing waste produced by residents or businesses through increasing reuse and recycling.

Priorities for the 2016-17 Sustainable City funding round include:

  • Reducing energy consumption and emissions from homes and businesses in Cambridge
  • Reducing consumption of resources, increasing recycling and reducing waste
  • Supporting residents and businesses to adapt to the impacts of climate change

Cllr George Owers, Executive Councillor for Finance and Resources, said: “In addition to tackling climate change, the projects which will be funded through this scheme will have direct benefits locally, cutting energy bills and helping to create a greener Cambridge. I would encourage interested groups to submit an expression of interest form as soon as possible in order to be considered for funding for 2016-17”.

Groups can apply for up to £10,000, but will need to be quick as expressions of interest need to be submitted by 29 February.
