Grants to help reduce social and economic disadvantage in Cambridge

Cambridge City Council has launched its 2016-17 community grants programme, inviting non-profit voluntary and community organisations to apply for awards from a £900,000 fund.

All proposed projects must help to reduce social and economic inequality, targeting Cambridge city residents in the greatest need.

In addition, they should support one or more of the following activities: sport, arts and culture, community development, legal, financial and employment support.

Cllr Richard Johnson, Executive Councillor for Communities, said: “We want our grants to continue supporting Cambridge’s strong and vibrant voluntary sector and, at the same time, make a real difference to people’s lives by tackling inequality and disadvantage in our city.

“We will focus our resources on supporting groups that demonstrate they will help residents with the greatest need.

“We are expecting to receive applications for way in excess of the funding available. It is essential that applications are strong and able to meet our funding criteria and evidence the need and impact of the project. We offer a range of help and support to organisations with this.”

The community grants fund was launched last year and over 80 organisations received awards.

These included larger organisations such as the Citizens Advice Bureau and much smaller community groups, with awards ranging from £250,000 to £200.

The closing date for applications is 2 October. An information pack for applicants is available at www.cambridge.gov.uk/grants, by emailing: grants@cambridge.gov.uk or phoning 01223 457875.
