High-profile line-up for Mumford Theatre this autumn

A number of high-profile shows are coming to Anglia Ruskin University’s Mumford Theatre this autumn, including new productions by the John Godber Company and the Nottingham Playhouse.

The Mumford Theatre, on Anglia Ruskin’s Cambridge campus, hosts a wide range of professional touring, local community and student productions, and the autumn/winter season kicks off with Journey’s End on 26 September.

Based on R C Sherriff’s own experiences in the trenches, Journey’s End is a harrowing insight into the humanity of the First World War.

Lennon: Through A Glass Onion is embarking on a nationwide tour following its off-Broadway success and its acclaimed season at the Epstein Theatre in Liverpool, and visits the Mumford Theatre on 28 September.

Part-concert and part-biography, the show features West End star Daniel Taylor and showcases 31 hits of John Lennon and Lennon/McCartney including ImagineRevolution andJealous Guy.

Following a successful run in London and the Edinburgh Festival, Tony’s Last Tape, produced by Nottingham Playhouse, stops off in Cambridge on 17 October as part of its first UK tour.  The play is based on the recorded diaries of the late Labour MP Tony Benn, one of the country’s most respected politicians.

On 31 October the John Godber Company will stage his brand new medical comedy This Might Hurt, which focuses on an actor who returns home to care for his ageing aunt.

November will see Witness (2 November), performed by National Dance Award nominees Company Chameleon and Mr Darcy Loses The Plot (19 November) by the hilarious LipService Theatre.

1915: Dead in the Water (22-23 November) is a new play by award-winning playwright and Anglia Ruskin historian Dr Sean Lang.  The play focuses on the sinking of the RMS Lusitania by the German navy, which was one of the most controversial acts of the First World War.

Rounding off November will be Blackeyed Theatre who will be presenting their brand new adaptation of Mary Shelly’s classic, Frankenstein (28-30 November)

For music lovers, the Mumford Theatre’s ever popular free Lunchtime Concert series (every Friday at 1.10pm) returns on 30 September with Jazz at the Movies, featuring the Chris Ingham Quartet and fronted by Joanna Eden.

The Mumford Theatre will also be one of the venues for this year’s Cambridge International Jazz Festival and Cambridge Music Festival, playing host to renowned musicians and acts such as Soweto Kinch, Phronesis, Piano Circus and Matthew Barley.
