How to supercharge your furloughed and remote employees

Are you worried that your furloughed employees might lose interest in your business? That they might start looking for other work, and may never come back? Perhaps you worry for their mental health, as many struggle with being in lockdown. Maybe this ‘downtime’ feels, at best, like pressing pause on your business and everything you’ve achieved so far.

Claire Vane of Integrated Resources writes:

What about seeing it as an opportunity? Why not see them as a captive audience, with time on their hands? They’ll be reflecting on your business, their role in it, and their future. Why not help them see a future with you? And why not start preparing them for their return?

Whilst the scheme forbids them to work, it actively encourages training - And the provision of learning opportunities is a key retention and engagement strategy.

Imagine if your workforce were in better shape, and keen to try out their new skills on their return. Perhaps they are in line for promotion to manager or a leadership role. Perhaps you have realised that your current managers need help in managing teams remotely. Maybe this would provide a great opportunity to look at time management, or perhaps you’re going to need them to improve their sales skills to build your clients up when you’re up and running.

If you’re worried about the investment, Henry Ford, the founder of Ford Motor Company wisely said: “The only thing worse than training your employees and having them leave, is not training them and having them stay.” And everyone is going to need supercharged employees to rebuild their businesses once this is over, not to mention additional facets of leadership that remote working has highlighted as critical.

Think about it. What skills and behaviours are going to need strengthening? Whatever your needs, Integrated Resources can help. We create bespoke courses for our clients, so why not drop us a line and we can discuss your priorities and how we could address them. We have a series of workshops ready to run around leadership and management (and we distinguish clearly between the two).
