Artists aim to impress during special event at Anglia Ruskin’s Compass House

Anglia Ruskin is hosting a special event showcasing Sony Interactive Entertainment’s new virtual reality game RIGS Mechanized Combat League, which was developed by the Guerrilla Games studio here in Cambridge.

And during the event to celebrate the new Sony PlayStation game, Anglia Ruskin Game Art and Technology students will have the opportunity to showcase their talents to some of the most influential people in the industry.

The event is taking place at Anglia Ruskin’s new Compass House facility on Newmarket Road in Cambridge, which brings together BSc (Hons) Computer Gaming Technologystudents from the Faculty of Science and Technology with BA (Hons) Computer Games Art students from the Faculty of Arts, Law and Social Sciences.

Guerrilla’s Mark Green will provide insight into the making of the RIGS game, while Adrian Cannard of GCGP LEP will discuss the regional games industry and Abhi Naha of Cambridge Wireless will talk about technology business networks.  The event will also include an opportunity to play RIGS, which was released last week.

Dr Andy Salmon, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Law and Social Sciences, said: “Cambridge is a true global hot spot when it comes to both computers and computer games design with the likes of ARM, Jagex, Frontier Developments and, of course, Sony’s Guerrilla Games all based in the city.

“There can be few better places to be studying Computer Gaming Technology or Computer Games Art than Cambridge.  Anglia Ruskin already hosts the annual Brains Eden event, which is the largest student games festival in Europe and provides young game developers with a wonderful shop window for their talents.

“And special industry events such as Sony’s Guerrilla Games launch of RIGS at Compass House bring together some of the most influential people in the sector.  Our students will get the chance to meet these figures and showcase their work, which is a brilliant opportunity for them.”

The 2016 showreel for the BA Computer Games Art course is available to watch here.
