Leading law firm supports children’s charity in new apprenticeship initiative

The Cambridge office of top 50 law firm Penningtons Manches has announced that it will work with local charity Break to part-fund, through the firm’s charitable foundation, an apprenticeship for a young person leaving care.

Break, which was chosen as a local charity partner by the Cambridge office’s charitable committee in 2018, works with young people in care and moving on, children with disabilities, and families who need support. The apprenticeship is a new initiative between the firm and the charity and forms part of a broader programme of financial and practical support being provided by Penningtons Manches’ charitable foundation.

Alongside arranging the apprenticeship funding, the Cambridge team is also in the process of planning a ‘My Break 50’ challenge to raise further monies for the charity in the coming months. The challenge is a celebration of Break’s 50 years of work and involves supporters creating their own personal challenges around the number 50.

Partner Sarah Coates commented: “We are delighted to be supporting the apprenticeship programme, which will help bridge a key gap at this very vulnerable stage of life through work and training. Break is a fantastic organisation and the team here is very proud to partner with them in their mission to provide a better future for young people at risk and families in need of support.”

Penningtons Manches Charitable Foundation was established by Penningtons Manches in 2017. It supports a number of national and local organisations through charitable giving and pro bono initiatives and focuses in particular on vulnerable groups, education projects and community work. Alongside a central programme, the firm encourages schemes which have a positive impact in the communities where employees live and work. Each of the firm’s six offices selects a number of local projects and charities whose activities complement a central programme of activity.
