Learn how to present yourself

Whether you're a seasoned presenter wanting to brush up your skills, or a complete novice with no experience of presenting, Cambridge Network's Learning Collaboration has a course next month to help you be the best that you can be.

Intermediate Presentation Skills on Monday 11 and Tuesday 12 May (a host venue is sought) is a workshop designed for individuals who want to master and/or brush up on the essentials of presenting. The workshop gives a blend of scientific theory and practical exercises to build skills and confidence within a supportive environment.

This training takes full account of where you are in terms of presentation experience and current commitments, and focuses on the requirements of each new group. This person-centred method of working gives everyone the opportunity to address their own needs. You will be helped to incorporate real-world proven and researched methods into your own style to develop effective presentations.

Delegates usually spend Day 1 on issues connected with the person, such as confidence building and non-verbal communication to help convey authority. Day 2 concentrates on criteria for capturing attention through verbal communication and content, structuring a talk for maximum impact and retention, and techniques for engagement and memorability

Everyone will have the opportunity to be filmed, and to see and hear themselves present, which is a great tool for self-awareness and development: learning about your own style, what works well and what you need to improve.

For those who come to the topic with little or no experience,  the Introduction to Presentation Skills one-day workshop on Thursday 14 May (host venue sought) provides a safe and supportive environment for individuals to practice skills and gain confidence in their presentation ability.

You will learn how to

  • Understand stress and its effects, and find coping strategies
  • Look and sound confident even under stress
  • Create, structure and bring to life effective content
  • Develop and use prompts to depend on during a presentation.

By the end of the workshop, you will be able to prepare, create and deliver a presentation with confidence.
