Life science companies missing out on tax credits

Life science companies are missing out by not taking advantage of research and development tax credits, warns Global Regulatory Services, a Cambridgeshire based consultancy to the life science industry.

Global Regulatory Services teams up with Leyton to raise awareness of R&D tax credits for eligible companies

GRS, which is based near Ely, has just announced an alliance with the UK branch of the French company, Leyton, to raise awareness of  the opportunities available for eligible companies.

Bobby Deal, Managing Director, of GRS, said that this alliance with Leyton, a consulting firm with specialist knowledge of the UK R&D tax credit system, was extremely important for many of GRS’ innovative clients.

Bobby said: “Companies are too often missing out on tax relief and credits which they are due, but are completely unaware of.  Our consultancy focuses on regulatory affairs and innovation, but we like to take this a step further and advise our clients on market strategy and access thereby giving them the best chance for successful commercialisation.  With Leyton we can now ensure our clients are not only compliant with the regulations but also that they take full advantage of the UK Research and Development Tax Relief and Credit Scheme optimising their business costs.”

Profit-making SMEs can deduct up to 225% of their eligible R&D expenditure from their corporation tax liability and SMEs in a loss-making position can claim up to 25% of their eligible expenditure as a payable tax credit.  Without making these kinds of claims, a company could be seriously damaging their future.

Dr Kristin Kornerup, a R&D Consultant at Leyton, has indicated that the R&D Tax Relief and Credit schemes underpin the success of the life sciences organisations in the UK.

Kristin said: “The Life Sciences sector is pivotal in the UK and invests vast amounts of capital on R&D. Even so, we find companies continue to miss out or underestimate their claims, mainly because of lack of awareness or a misunderstanding of the, admittedly complex, legislation. We are delighted to have built an alliance with GRS, and aim to assist their clients in achieving successful R&D Tax Relief & Credit claims. The most important direct consequence of the scheme is that it allows companies to re-invest in research and development. This is particularly important for early-stage research, where cash funds are often difficult to obtain.”
