At Laptops4Learning, the situation in Ukraine has a special resonance. The Russian invasion has had a terrible impact on people’s lives, separating families, and forcing many to flee to safety in other countries while leaving loved ones behind.
When the first refugee families began to arrive in Cambridgeshire, Laptops4Learning initially sent 4 laptops to Cambridge Refugee Resettlement Campaign to help these families communicate and continue education, as well as access services to help them integrate into the community. From this small beginning, in partnership with Cambridge Refugee Resettlement Campaign, the team have now provided over 400 laptops to Ukrainian families settling in Cambridgeshire.
Laptops4Learning are sponsoring the Cambridge Literary Festival event “A Love Letter to Ukraine”, which features Yeva Skalietska, who at 12 years old back in February 2022 took shelter with her Granny in a basement while the terrifying shelling started on her home town of Kharkiv. There she decided to write down her story, chronicling their search for safety, and travel from Kharkiv to Dublin.
She is joined by Katya Hudson, an illustration student at Kingston University, whose memoir covers childhood holidays in Crimea through to the impact of the invasion, with the fear and anxiety experienced as she desperately tried to get in touch with family in Ukraine.
Join Yeva and Katya on Sat 22 Apr 2023 | 2:00pm - 3:00pm, to learn how they find hope and resilience in the face of conflict.
