Manufacturing director, trusted friend and adviser Mike McCreary has passed away

Cambridge Investment Research and Justin Hayward are greatly saddened to write that Mike McCreary has passed away. Mike was a wonderful, decent, optimistic, broad-shouldered, quiet and humble family man, yet he was also a British manufacturing and business leader, heading up Aeroflex, formerly Marconi Instruments until 2006.

Mike was a trusted friend, mentor to Justin and adviser to CIR since 2004, in all of which he was invaluable.

Mike spoke as a keynote at HVM 2003 as MD of the leading manufacturer in Herts, and allowed Justin and CIR to visit his Stevenage-based factory in 2002 as part of the CIR research into High Value Manufacturing in East England. Mike helped with some client consultancy and supported and attended all CIR Conferences since 2004, numbering around 30 in all. He often helped with the conference content and structuring, the handling of speakers and on-stage introductions to conferences. Mike was a great ambassador for CIR and made many friends at the conferences.

In 1992, Mike joined Aeroflex (formerly IFR and Marconi Instruments) as Manufacturing Director. After his role as Manufacturing Director, Mike was appointed as Managing Director in 2000, with an engineering-heavy staff numbering 800. He retired from this role in 2006 and continued to work with CIR until 2014.

Mike is survived by his wife, and two daughters who are in their 20s.

Please contact Justin via cir@hvm-uk.com if you knew Mike and would like to send a message to CIR and his family or to attend the service this Thursday 3 July 2014 to celebrate Mike’s life.
