Organised by CIR Strategy, the 10th anniversary HVM Conference - which takes place at Murray Edwards College a week tomorrow (Wednesday November 14) - will be of particular interest to Cambridge Network members, many of whom are taking part. It promises fascinating insight and high level debate about the importance of High Value Manufacturing to the UK economy.
Chair for the day is Professor Sir Mike Gregory CBE, Head of Cambridge University's Institute for Manufacturing. Panelists include Lord Sainsbury of Turville, Chancellor of Cambridge University; former Minister for Innovation, Matthew Bullock, the former Chief Executive of NPBS; Charles Cotton of Cambridge Phenomenon, former MD of Globespan Virata; and Nick McCooke, former CEO of Solexa plc.
Claire Ruskin, CEO of Cambridge Network, commented: “We have a considerable number of high value manufacturers as members of Cambridge Network; manufacturing is far from lost in the UK and Cambridge has many highly successful businesses making what they have invented and now selling around the world.
"In my role at PA Consulting, I am increasingly seeing manufacturing returning from the Far East to Eastern Europe and now back to the UK. We are moving beyond traditional views of smoking chimneys to an industry which is somewhat invisible but nonetheless there. From Johnson Matthey and Marshall to Domino, Inca and Xaar, from Abcam to Napp, we are firmly engaged in high value manufacturing around Cambridge and we’re delighted to have such a conference taking place here.”
The HVM summit takes place the day after two other conferences, part of CIR Strategy's Cleantech Series. iHEAT discusses intelligent heating systems and smart home automation, and iWATER covers water industry innovations. These are private sector-led conferences where delegates are free to create, impact, be inspired and learn.
