Mills & Reeve lawyers qualify for new family law service

Two of Mills & Reeve’s top family lawyers, Roger Bamber and Nigel Shepherd, have qualified as family law arbitrators and will become members of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

Family law arbitration is the latest addition to the family dispute resolution tool kit, with the service providing the opportunity for parties to have the financial consequences of their relationship breakdown adjudicated by an arbitrator of their choice.

Roger Bamber, Partner at Mills & Reeve’s Cambridge office, said: “In contrast to court proceedings, clients will have much greater control over where and when the dispute is determined and the procedures to be adopted. They will get a decision far quicker than if they had to wait for a court hearing before a judge.

“Our family team already offers mediation and collaborative law, alongside solicitor negotiation and litigation. The ability for us to offer arbitration further reinforces the team's position as national leaders and innovators in family law."

The scheme will be formally launched on 26 March but Roger and Nigel, who is based at the firm’s Manchester office, are able to accept arbitrator appointments immediately.
