The charity writes:
What a success the Cambridge Half Marathon has been and we are still five months away from the actual event! Eager participants really had to get their running shoes on to secure a place and many have been left disappointed. Fear not: Team ARHC still has places!
In previous years, the event has taken in a double loop of the Cambridge based route. This year, however, organiser One Step Beyond has negotiated a new one lap route taking in Grantchester as well as historic Cambridge. This is advantageous not only for runners keen to avoid a Groundhog Day situation, but also - with a longer single lap route - the race will accommodate over 7,000 participants. So it is a double whammy of successes for the organiser: not only is this the new route’s inaugural year but the race sold out all 7,000 places in less than 50 hours - a record!
Arthur Rank Hospice Charity released their bonded places moments after the sell-out and while many are gone, there are still some up for grabs. There is no registration fee, so effectively you're running for free and the Charity asks that you raise a minimum sponsorship of £250. Everyone running with Team ARHC (bond or ballot place) receives a free Team ARHC running vest or t-shirt, an invitation to the free Runner's Night held at Advance Performance on 26 November, and expert fundraising and media support from the team at Arthur Rank Hospice Charity.
With last year’s team raising over £13,000 for the hospice there are high hopes that this year's team could break the £15,000 barrier! The money made will help towards raising the £2 million required each year which enables the Charity to support the work of the hospice and continue to funds vital services for people across Cambridge, completely free of charge.
Kath Austin, Challenges Community Fundraiser said: “Team ARHC has gone from strength to strength over the past few years, not least because of our partnership with One Step Beyond and the Cambridge Half Marathon. This year we are hoping to have the biggest Team ARHC yet running the new one-lap route and are excited to welcome new runners on board”.
The charity will be sharing updates on social media, encouraging all participants to use the hashtag #TeamARHC to follow the team’s progress.
