Fun-loving families enjoyed some frothy frolics while tackling a new Bubble Rush in Newmarket.
More than 1,300 good sports signed up for the eagerly-anticipated event and so far they have raised £38,000 for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
EACH’s Bubble Rush has previously been popular in Norwich but this was a first for Newmarket.
The course featured four bubble stations along a 2.5km route. Each had a cannon that pumped out coloured foam to create a four-foot deep bubble bath.
Senior Events Fundraiser Emma Cook said: “It was another fun day and, thankfully, the rain held off until the very end.
“You never know how things are going to work out when you try an event in a different place but we couldn’t have been happier.
“The numbers, both in terms of participants and the amount raised, was extremely positive and there’s still more money to come.
“We’re thankful to everyone who signed up and supported us, as well as those who made donations.
“We had lots of teams sign up and they did incredibly well, including those going under the names of The Hardys (£1,240), Darcie Rose (£960) and OLD F.A.R.T.S. (Old Friends Remember The Smiles!), who raised £795.”
Also among those to take part was Sue Nettleingham, manager of EACH’s online Book Shop, who was joined by volunteers Gail Pritchard and Jane Rowlston.
Between them, they raised in the region of £700.
“We were very grateful to Jockey Club Estates, for letting us use their land, and Bedford Lodge Hotel and Spa, who sponsored one of the stations,” added Emma.
EACH’s Bubble Rushes are a key part of its fundraising calendar.
More than 2,000 participants helped raise over £63,500 at the Norfolk Showground, in May.
Meanwhile, EACH’s new Lego Walk is taking place at the charity’s Milton base, near Cambridge, on 29th September.
The toe-curling trail will feature more than 10,000 bricks and there are four time slots available, between 2pm and 3:30pm.
