‘Networked for learning’: Cambridge prepares for Learning at Work Week

Leading Cambridge companies are joining with Cambridge Network’s Learning Collaboration to ramp up training activities to support Learning at Work Week.

Learning at Work week (14th - 20th May 2018) takes place annually, co-ordinated by the Campaign for Learning. It is a celebration of learning and development (L&D), with a different theme each year.

“’Networked for learning’ is this year’s theme,” says Sarah Gleadell, Learning Collaboration L&D Coordinator, “so as Cambridge Network, we were compelled to get involved. Everything we do at the Network – from training courses to business lectures, newsletters to job fairs – is about learning and sharing.

“In fact, Learning at Work week is something we feel strongly about. With the amazing work Cambridge organisations do with L&D, we want to celebrate it and encourage our members to get involved.”

At an event in Cambridge last week, two Cambridge companies – both previous Campaign for Learning award winners – explained what they had done in the past.

Jan Holmes, Learning & Development Advisor at Taylor Vinters, described how hercalendar of events and ‘expresso shots’ for staff during Learning at Work Week 2017 won her the Campaign for Learning Impact Award for Inspiring Curiosity and Creativity.

Dave Bevan, Learning and Development Specialist at Jagex, outlined how Jagex ran a series of learning activities during the week, as well as driving engagement through offering daily competitions and an end of week prize draw. People were rewarded for physically attending sessions while virtual attendance was also offered catering for different personalities. Jagex won OCN London Inspiring Learning for All - Large Organisation, and the Open University Business School Supporting Business and Organisational Goals - Large Organisation.

“The outcome of last week’s event was a pledge for all those who attended - including Featurespace, Frontier Developments, Inca Digital Printers, IT Governance, Ieso Digital Health, Linguamatics, Mundipharma Research, NW Brown Group, Speechmatics and the Royal Society of Chemistry, among others – to meet once a month over the course of the next year to plan co-ordinated activities for Learning at Work Week 2019,” adds Sarah. “We have also set up a dedicated LinkedIn group.”

In the meantime, Cambridge Network’s Learning Collaboration is among many organisations which are running special Learning at Work Week sessions this year:
