New course gives graduates two years hard-won work skills in six months

Anglia Ruskin University has developed a pioneering new course for graduates working in growing businesses, which involves attending sessions led by experienced trainers, business experts and guest speakers. Independent project work between sessions is developed around real challenges and is aimed at increasing the participants’ exposure to the different roles and responsibilities required in the workplace.

The Graduate Development Programme was designed to help newly graduated employees fast-track their ability to offer measurable value to their company while honing their personal business skills. The Programme delivers the experience, outcomes and benefits of an in-house graduate training scheme without the usual time outlay and other associated costs to the business.

Brendon Shaw, UK Team Leader at Bertrandt UK, commented: “The Graduate Development Programme has been incredibly important for Bertrandt UK. It has not only benefited our graduates by giving them two years hard-won work skills in six months, but it has been hugely valuable for management by giving us insights into the character, skills and potential of our new starters. We’ve found our participants have started to work better together, and have been able to more effectively deal with stressful situations such as presenting to senior management, chairing meetings and dealing with suppliers. We put four staff on the programme as an experiment, and can now report that we’re lining up the next cohort as we speak. The quality of the facility at Anglia Ruskin University is very good, and being close by, has enabled us to reduce time out of the office. We have also been very impressed with the quality and experience of the lecturers and facilitators provided by ARU.”

The next programme will start in Cambridge in January 2015 with a subsequent programme commencing in Chelmsford in February 2015.
