New plaques recognise donors to Addenbrooke's

Addenbrooke's Charitable Trust and Cambridge University Hospitals today launched a new donor recognition wall in the Addenbrooke's Hospital main reception with plaques to thank significant donors for their support of the hospitals.

Donor recognition walls have long been a feature of philanthropic programmes in establishments such as museums and galleries and also healthcare organisations throughout the world, but as yet they are rarely seen in NHS hospitals in the UK.

Cambridge University Hospitals is one of the first NHS organisations to have a donor recognition wall installed by its dedicated charity, Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust, to acknowledge the huge impact of charitable donations to Addenbrooke's and the Rosie over the years; celebrating the heritage of the hospital from the legacy left by John Addenbrooke, to the kind support that is being given today towards the development of the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

The creation of a donor recognition wall for the main reception and further donor recognition plaques across Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie serve to celebrate and thank donors while also inspiring others to support the hospitals.

Charitable donations help support a wide range of additional projects across the hospitals that might not otherwise be met by NHS budgets including:

  • a portable ultrasound machine for paediatric intensive care
  • patient information screens for outpatients clinics
  • additional dialysis machines for the renal unit
  • extra ventilators for neuro critical care
  • portable personal listening devices for patients who are hard of hearing
