‘One stop’ site for people in need of legal help

A new website aims to simplify the way people in need of legal help for family issues navigate the court system.

Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) Law Clinic has developed the site so people in Cambridge, who either have a hearing in the family court or questions about legal processes, can easily obtain the information they need.

The site will provide a one-stop resource for everything from lists of local legal representatives to where to park at the family court. It is set out in flow charts to simplify and explain what can be a difficult process.

Sarah Calder, Director of the Law Clinic at ARU, said: “The development of the website has been enthusiastically supported by the local judiciary who are only too aware of the challenges facing people who come to court without a solicitor or barrister to help them.

“We hope that it will ease the process for people and take away some of the mystery and fear about the court so that the whole experience is less daunting.”

ARU’s Law Clinic was set up in 2018, working with local law firms to provide free, independent and confidential legal advice to people who otherwise might struggle to obtain it. In October last year, it celebrated helping its 1,000th client across Cambridge, Chelmsford and Peterborough.
