Patient invites runners to join Addenbrooke's team at Boundary Run

You are invited to join an Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT) team of runners taking part in the Cambridge Boundary Run on Sunday 3 March 2013 to raise £10,000 in aid of patients treated for cancer at Addenbrooke’s Hospital.

The ACT Now for Addenbrooke’s team has been set up by patient Simon Read who wanted to give something back following his treatment for bladder cancer at Addenbrooke’s in 2011, and subsequent advanced urothelial cancer in 2012 involving follow up treatments at Addenbrooke’s.

Simon said: “Both treatments I have received have been marked with extraordinary support, dedication and commitment from a wide range of staff. That’s why I wanted to say thank you by raising funds to support the purchase of additional resources to make a difference for many who are treated for cancer in this centre.”

The Cambridge Boundary Run is a long distance run that takes place around the outskirts of Cambridge alongside a beautiful and varied countryside and includes hundreds of runners each year. There are options to run either a half or whole marathon and Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust hopes to submit a team of thirty runners to help raise funds to support patient care.

Jo Pearson, Community Fundraising Manager at Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust said: “We are very grateful to Simon for setting up the Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust team to raise money for cancer services at the hospital. Please do join us in this extra special fundraiser to help make a difference for patients like Simon.”

Registration is free for the ACT Now for Addenbrooke’s team members and keen participants are asked to contact Simon Read at actnowteamrun@gmail.com by Thursday 31 January 2013 if they would like to join the team.
