Peer learning group kicks off for new and junior managers

Are you new to a management role – or about to move into one? If so, you could benefit from sharing experiences and developing your skills with like-minded people in Cambridge Network’s peer learning group designed for New Managers.

Cambridge Network’s Learning Collaboration runs a series of peer learning programmes for different groups and they have proved highly effective. Its group for new and junior managers, started last year, has been so well received that the Network is now launching a 2016 programme.

Now it seeks new participants, who are invited to attend a special Taster Session on Tuesday 15 March.

What is it?
Louise Rushworth, events/peer learning manager at Cambridge Network, explains: “The programme starts with a one-day intensive workshop, followed by seven short peer learning sessions over the course of the year with another one-day intensive workshop mid-way through.

“The monthly half day sessions address the real issues, challenges and opportunities encountered by participants and the meetings include guest speakers, round table discussions, book reviews and visits to member organisations.

“Agendas are always set in consultation with group members and sessions are facilitated by a very experienced management coach, Colin Chrebelski, who has himself worked in industry and also had a very successful career in learning and development.”

Topics covered in the new managers’ group last year included

  • Performance management
  • Managing staff on probation
  • How to conduct one-to-one meetings
  • Recruitment and on-boarding best practice
  • Career discussions
  • Personal development
  • Working with and managing very intelligent people.

“I have found the New Managers Group meetings not only enjoyable but incredibly useful, and that’s quite a rare thing”, said one member of last year’s group.

Who is it for?

The group is aimed at emerging managers and those about to start management roles; people who are keen to explore and develop their all-round leadership performance.

Louise says: “We want to create a high-quality group that will bring together individuals from different organisations and business sectors to work collaboratively and reflect the knowledge, skills and behaviours they need to be effective managers.

“Ideally, participants will already be in a role requiring them to manage others, and they should be prepared to commit to the group for every session as far as possible.”

Who is the facilitator?

Colin Chrebelski – Facilitator/Management Coach, DG International
Colin is passionate about helping people and organisations reach their full potential. He has a successful career with a lifetime’s experience in learning and development. He has an MBA, a Certificate in Education, is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

How much does it cost?
Fees for the new managers’ group are £1,050 + VAT per person per year.
