Penningtons strengthens Cambridge practice with new corporate partner

Penningtons Solicitors LLP has recruited Helen Drayton as a corporate partner in its new Cambridge office. Helen joins from Hewitsons in Cambridge, where she had been a partner since 2008.

Helen will work alongside James Stephen who heads the corporate team in Cambridge. She supports a broad range of clients on all aspects of company law, including business acquisitions and disposals, and has a particular focus on management buy-outs. Helen advises on early stage funding rounds and investments and also deals with insolvency related transactions, including acting for insolvency practitioners. She has extensive expertise in corporate reorganisations, while also advising borrowers and lenders, and has become a member of Penningtons' banking group.

Having worked in the Cambridge area throughout her career, Helen has developed a prominent reputation in the local business community. She has been part of the judging panel of the Cambridge News Business Excellence Awards for the last three years.

Helen’s appointment supports the ongoing strategic development of Penningtons’ key practice areas across the firm and reaffirms its commitment to building the strength and depth of the Cambridge team. She will be joined in Cambridge by new commercial partner Hamish Corner who moves to Penningtons from Charles Russell in October.

Commenting on Helen’s arrival, Penningtons’ chief executive David Raine said: “We’re delighted to have Helen on board. She has a wealth of experience in the corporate field where we are enhancing our market share through our expanding team of specialists who are recognised for their highly practical, client-focused advice. Her appointment bolsters our ambitions to become one of the leading firms in the Cambridge area for corporate and commercial legal services.”

Penningtons launched its Cambridge office in March 2012 when partners Tim Tyndall, Hilary Aldred and James Stephen joined the firm from Charles Russell. The main emphasis of the office is on providing employment, corporate and commercial advice to organisations in the technology and education markets.
