The application coincides with the Vision for Ipswich put forward by Ipswich Central and will be a significant addition for the planned Civic Quarter.
Subject to approval, the law firm anticipates working to a two year schedule with Churchmanor Estates commencing construction of the four-storey building in early 2016 with Birketts taking occupancy during the first half of 2017.
Jonathan Agar, chief executive officer for Birketts, said: “Having announced last year that we had secured a new site for suitable premises I’m now delighted to confirm that our planning application has been submitted.”
Jonathan continued: “Birketts has had a presence in the town for over 150 years and our roots are very firmly based here. After several years of expansion we’ve simply outgrown our existing premises and our new headquarters will be over 50,000 sq ft. Securing this site is essential to executing our long-term plans and continuing to provide our clients with a first class service.”
Stephen Clark, managing director of Churchmanor Estates, said: “Having identified suitable premises for Birketts in the town centre we have been working closely with Ipswich Borough Council and our design team to provide a bespoke solution for Birketts property requirements and now look forward to obtaining planning permission. We are delighted to be at the forefront of new investment into Ipswich which supports the development of the Civic Quarter of the town
