Having originally trained as a nurse at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Professor Taylor returned to Cambridge in 2013, joining Anglia Ruskin University from Scotland, where she had worked in Higher Education since 1998. Her clinical career was primarily focused on cancer nursing and, latterly, general practice nursing. She worked across the UK and has worked in Australia and New Zealand.
After moving into higher education, Professor Taylor developed and delivered one of the first General Practice Nursing degrees, and led a large pre-registration nursing programme before taking charge of a School of Nursing and Midwifery. She was awarded a prestigious Florence Nightingale Foundation leadership scholarship, and remains involved with the organisation as an alumna.
She has held roles in the QAA Scotland First Year Enhancement Theme, and the Recruitment and Retention Delivery Group (Scottish Government and NHS Education for Scotland) where she led national work on Data Enhancement and played a key role in the development of policy and practice for student retention.
She has research expertise in the student experience, retention and selection of student nurses and midwives, nursing education, the impact of policy on practice in midwifery settings, and the culture of healthcare. She was awarded a Professorship in 2012 for her research and leadership around the student experience and continues to work with international colleagues in this area.
Professor Taylor said: “I am passionate about providing the best possible education and support for our students. In this faculty we educate nurses, midwives, and social workers, as well as offering other courses such as education studies and social policy. We have a vibrant research community within the faculty and our Veterans and Families Institute has made headlines since its foundation last year.
“I am pleased to take on the challenge of leading this large faculty – the largest provider of nurses and midwives in the East of England – one that plays a major role in contributing to the health and wellbeing of our area. I’m looking forward to working with NHS Trusts, commissioners and education and social care providers.”
