This one-day event will feature world-class keynote speakers including: Neil Stansfield, Head, Centre of Excellence for Technology Innovation, DSTL; Colin Williams, Director of Business Development & Strategic Partnerships, D-Wave; Michael Brown, CTO, ISARA Corporation; Paul Martin, CTO, Plextek; Trevor Cross, CTO, e2v; John Morton, Professor of Nanoelectronics & Nanophotonics at UCL; and Patrick Gill, Co-Director, NPL Quantum Metrology Institute, National Physical Laboratory. Dr Hermann Hauser, Co-Founder, Amadeus Capital Partners will join the Conference panel for a Venture Investor's perspective on quantum technology.
CW TEC will also be an opportunity to see examples of the current quantum science and technology projects being undertaken in the research community. The poster competition provides a chance to present research to a largely technical, but non-specialist, audience from the wireless, communications and IT sectors. Interested researchers should apply by 1st September 2016.
“The science behind today's ITC systems essentially dates from the first half of the 20th Century, but now exploiting esoteric quantum principles such as entanglement and superposition promise another technological revolution - Quantum 2.0,” said Prof. John Haine, CW Board Member and chair of the organising committee. “Quantum 2.0 takes us on a fascinating journey to a new generation of devices which actively create, manipulate and read quantum states of matter for applications ranging from quantum computing, sensing and cryptography to signal processing at speeds well beyond what is possible today. Now is the time for technology leaders to begin to understand its implications, and engineers and scientists starting their careers to understand the technologies they could be applying in five to ten years.”
Aimed at the technology industry, young engineers and physicists, CW TEC will give an overview of the new world to come and examine the host of hard problems that need to be solved and the opportunities that will open up; from computers with multiple times the power of today's supercomputers which, amongst other issues, render today's web encryption redundant; new methods for secure communications; atomic clocks many times more accurate than today's state of the art clocks; to quantum sensors for acceleration and gravity that will enable new methods of mapping and navigation.
