The East of England’s largest independent timber and builder’s merchants, Ridgeons, has recently donated 500 stress balls to the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity.
Worth £500, the donation comes after the Hospice applied to the business through the Cambridgeshire Community Foundation for stress balls to help patients in the Lymphoedema Clinic – an outpatient service based in the Hospice’s new Bradbury Wellness Centre.
The clinic aims to improve patients’ lymphatic circulation and drainage using a range of specialist treatments and techniques including tight hosiery and exercise. Patients are also taught how to manage their condition at home through self-massage, which encourages drainage of lymph nodes through massaging with the stress ball inside their elbows, groin and behind the knee.
Each patient will be given a Ridgeons stress ball free of charge to take home so they can practise the technique on a daily basis to help them manage their condition.
“The treatment and help we provide in our Lymphoedema Clinic can help reduce swelling in limbs, improve grip and flexibility, increase finger dexterity and can even help decrease anxiety levels,” explains Lynn Morgan, CEO of the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity. “We would like to thank Ridgeons for their support – this therapeutic resource allows self-management of what can be a very debilitating and chronic condition, bringing a sense of independence, empowerment and control.”
Ridgeons Group marketing manager, Joe Douglas (pictured with Lynn Morgan), said: “Ridgeons is a long-term supporter of the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity. When the application came in through, we were delighted to once again respond with additional support for an organisation, which delivers critical services in our community. This is our second donation of stress balls, and it is great that more people can now benefit.”
Ridgeons branches in Cambridge have been involved as a corporate supporter with Arthur Rank Hospice for more than 15 years, raising funds and awareness through activities including employee fundraising and in-branch collection tins.
