Saffron Walden runner storms first marathon

Emma Jenkins from Saffron Walden proudly completed her first London Marathon last weekend, raising vital funds for a local children’s charity.

Emma, 21, who plays for football for Cambridge Women’s Football Club and works at Audley End Miniature Railway, raised a fantastic £2,995 in aid of East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH) as she completed her début marathon.

Emma completed the 26 mile course in an impressive 4 hours 52 minutes.

Audley End Miniature Railway have been supporting EACH for more than a year and are continuing to offer their support and raise funds for the charity. Emma has been heavily involved in this partnership through her role with the company and so decided to continue to raise money through her own personal challenge.

Emma Jenkins, explained: “I am thrilled to have completed my first London Marathon. It was an incredible experience and I loved every second. Couldn’t walk the day after and still stiff but it was well worth it!

“I had some injuries during my training which really hampered my training so I’m so pleased I managed to get round the course in the time I did. This is was first marathon, although I’ve always been into running the furthest I’ve ever done is 10 miles before my training. Playing football for Cambridge Women’s Football Club keeps my fitness level high, but long distance running is a real challenge.

“I first became aware of EACH through my job at Audley End Miniature Railway, and as part of my role I paid a visit to Milton hospice to see the work they do. I was truly amazed by the care and support they provide to so many children and families. I am so thrilled to have raised so much money for this worthy cause.”

Madeleine Heath, EACH Cambridgeshire and Uttlesford Fundraiser, said: “I’d like to say a huge well done to Emma for completing her first marathon, she has worked so hard to get there! The amount she has raised is tremendous and will make so much difference to the work that EACH does.

“Our partnership with Audley End is really going from strength to strength and we are so grateful for their continued support. EACH cares for children and young people with life-threatening conditions and support their families across North Essex. The money raised hear will allow us to continue with this valuable work.”
