Joanna Eden, who mentored the young Smith for a decade from the age of nine and who now coaches students at Anglia Ruskin, will put on a free workshop on Saturday (19 September) entitled Sing Like Sam Smith as part of the Funki Fest event.
Dancing and acting workshops led by renowned artists in the music and entertainment industry will take place on that day at the Covent Garden Art Studio, off Mill Road in Cambridge, followed by a dazzling performance by award-winning improv group Kolina.
Joanna Eden will put on her workshop at 11am before Hayley Monaghan from Seen on Screen leads a Dance Like Kylie Minogue event at 12.30pm. Seen on Screen work with some of today’s biggest stars on the biggest stage.
The final workshop, entitled Act Like Tom Hiddleston, starts at 2pm and is being led by Kolina, before the group themselves take to the stage at 7pm. Kolina’s lead artist, Roope Salminen, has recently been nominated to become Media Personality of the year in his native Finland where he is a chart-topping rapper and TV star.
Miriam Berg, Community Engagement Officer at Anglia Ruskin, said: “We’re really looking forward to inviting talented performers in to learn from experienced and renowned people in the fields of music, dance and drama.
“The evening performance will be a real treat from an extremely entertaining group. It’s all improvised too, so you can never be sure of exactly what is going to happen!”
All activities are open to over 16s only and are free, but must be booked in advance by visiting www.anglia.ac.uk/communityevents or e-mailing miriam.berg@anglia.ac.uk.
