School mentoring programme expands

After a successful pilot last year, Form the Future's mentoring programme in schools is expanding. Over 100 students from eight schools have registered and more mentors are needed. Could you spare an hour a month?

Form the Future writes:

We need people across all industries and sectors who can offer up to one hour a month to support a young person at school to develop the attitude, behaviour and skills that will help them make the move from education into employment. Training is provided.

Many of the students who have registered for mentoring need help with motivation and finding a sense of direction. They may have specific skills they want support with, like getting organised and meeting deadlines. They may be interested in a particular career but lack any knowledge or contacts.

We match mentors based on industry experience, academic subjects, skills needs and shared interests. Mentors can indicate the school they wish to work with and the age of the students. We have a particular need for mentors to support students at Bassingbourn, Bottisham, Sawston and Swavesey.

Have a look at this video that shows three participants from last year talk about their experience: https://youtu.be/vs1uVvp7vSA
