See behind the scenes at this year's Open Cambridge weekend

Open Cambridge is a free weekend celebrating history, heritage and culture from the University of Cambridge which will take place 7–9 September 2012. Bookings open today!

Open Cambridge is a two day event in September which coincides with the National Heritage Open Days scheme. The Sunday of the event, the Bridge the Gap charity walk through Colleges and buildings of the University of Cambridge takes place.

For one special weekend in September Cambridge will open its doors and welcome everyone to share in its spectacular architecture, art collections, libraries and gardens. Open Cambridge features a variety of free pre-bookable and drop in events across the Friday and Saturday. Walks, talks, tours and exhibitions will highlight aspects of the City’s history and its rich heritage. A range of libraries, gardens, museums and historic buildings normally closed to the public will open up for families, local residents and community groups to discover and explore.

Open Cambridge 2011 was the biggest yet, with approximately 4,000 visitors taking part in all kinds of activities, from tours of Colleges, to drop in events at many of the University’s Museums and Departments. The 2012 Open Cambridge weekend promises to be even bigger and better than last year’s!

Advanced booking is essential on all tours, and is available online at: www.cam.ac.uk/opencambridge  or by ringing 01223 766766.

Open Cambridge is co-ordinated by the Public Engagement team at the University of Cambridge. The Team works across the University to support public engagement and community outreach work. We provide co-ordination for major events, pratical support, community contacts and advice for charitable, education and voluntary groups both within the University and other communities.  Our team works closely with many voluntary organisations and statutory bodies, and we provide a central information point for members of the public.
