See the light at e-Luminate festival

The dark nights of winter will be lit up for five nights later this month as Cambridge is turned into an open-air Light Lab.

Anglia Ruskin is sponsoring and supporting the e-Luminate festival which will see the city illuminated by a series of art installations and events put together by creative individuals in the fields of the Arts, Science and Technology.

The theme of this year’s festival is kinetics and moving lights. To celebrate 2015 being the UN International Year of Light, stunning art work will be projected onto some of Cambridge’s landmark buildings such as King’s College Chapel, Great St Mary’s Church and the Grafton Centre.

Throughout the festival, which runs from 11 to 15 February, Parker’s Piece will be home to a domed Light Hub, housing various light-themed installations across the five days between 9am and 10pm. The Light Hub will also host the opening ceremony at 5.30pm on 11 February.

There will also be workshops and events for all ages to enjoy, including a Light Lab at the Guildhall providing interactive displays and activities and a Light Painting Workshop at Anglia Ruskin’s East Road campus at 4pm on Sunday 15 February, hosted by professional photographer Matt Widgery. The workshop will demonstrate how to use the way a camera reacts to light to create stunning effects.

Miriam Berg, Community Engagement Officer for Anglia Ruskin University, said: “This promises to be a spectacular event for the whole city of Cambridge to enjoy.

“We are fortunate to have historic and unique architecture here which will provide a stunning backdrop to the light installations. We hope as many people as possible will come and enjoy the installations and events, some of which will take place on our campus. Let there be light!”
