Seven teams at Birketts prepare for Cumbrian Challenge 2016

Birketts, the award-winning, top 100 law firm based in the East of England, has announced that it has entered seven teams into this year’s 'Walking With The Wounded’ Cumbrian Challenge.

The Cumbrian Challenge 2016, now in its fourth year, will take place in the Lake District on Saturday 14 May 2016.

The challenge comprises three routes, catering for varying levels of physical fitness and determination. The Peak (circa 15km), The Tough (circa 22km) and The Tougher (circa 30km). Each team of four will compete against inspirational wounded servicemen and women over the stunning peaks of the Lake District.

Walking With The Wounded was established in 2010 to raise funds for the re-education and re-training of wounded servicemen and women to help them find a career, so that they can support themselves and re-build a life in the civilian work place.

Jonathan Agar, chief executive officer at Birketts, commented: “The aim of this event is to support wounded veterans back into employment. This is an excellent opportunity to help others, challenge ourselves and accomplish something remarkable with friends. I’m delighted to say that following the success of last year’s walk, the partners and staff across all four of our offices are fully committed to Walking With The Wounded and we’ve entered seven teams this year.”

Nigel Farthing, senior partner and sponsor of the CSR committee at Birketts, who is also walking ‘The Tough’ course added: “It’s particularly pleasing that colleagues at all levels are supporting this fantastic challenge. As well as fundraising for this very worthwhile cause, there’s a huge personal development opportunity for all those involved; team building, morale and health.”

WWTW Partnership and Events Manager Andy Sloan said: “We are really looking forward to seeing the teams from Birketts again. Everyone who takes part in the Cumbrian Challenge really feels like they have achieved something. It’s a fun event, but challenging in line with what we do, and in a stunning location. Participants really benefit from the shared experience of meeting the charity’s staff, beneficiaries and expedition team members, on and off the hill, and this year we’re hoping to have 200 teams competing and making a real impact supporting our wounded into work.”

COST: £200 per team of four and challenge to fundraise £1,000 per team (£250 each) in advance
