Sky is the limit for £185k partnership

A £185,000 partnership will see Anglia Ruskin University work with a Cambridgeshire firm to revolutionise the way their worldwide supply chain works and maximise customer service and efficiency.

Duxford-based Hexcel Composites UK will benefit from a 30-month Knowledge Transfer Partnership which will see Anglia Ruskin provide advice and supervision throughout an overhaul of its systems and processes across 18 of its manufacturing plants thanks to the grant by Innovate UK.

The company develops and manufactures composite materials for aircraft such as helicopters and commercial jets, including all carbon fibre composites for the Airbus A350 XWB primary structures. It also supports industrial markets including wind energy and automotive.

The grant will allow a UK graduate to be employed as part of the partnership to work with Hexcel, with support from Principal Academic Dr Helen Benton, who runs Anglia Ruskin’s MSc Supply Chain Management course.

Robert Walker, Assistant Manager of Knowledge Transfer at Anglia Ruskin, said: “I am incredibly excited by this ambitious partnership and we are thankful to Innovate UK for recognising its potential. We will support Hexcel as the company improves the competitiveness of its supply chain across the UK and beyond, which will also be of great benefit to SMEs and the aerospace industry as a whole.

“We help businesses to access the required knowledge and expertise in order to grow and innovate, and the Knowledge Transfer Team at Anglia Ruskin is committed to continuing efforts to bridge the gap between business and academia.”

Hexcel’s Global Supply Chain Director, Damien Holly, said: “Hexcel is committed to operational excellence and welcomes the opportunity to adopt the latest best practices and further enhance its supply chain management capability. Hexcel’s business partners will in turn benefit through better forecasting of supply and demand, which will reduce waste in the extended supply chain.”

Duxford-based Hexcel Composites Ltd is part of Hexcel Corporation, with headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut, USA.
