The course will provide guidance on how to choose content, how to put together and execute a search strategy, and how to analyse and report on your findings.
The emphasis here is on patent searching, but depending on technical field, you might want to search other content. We will consider when and how to include other literature in your state of the art review. State of the Art search needs to be broader than a typical patentability search. This course will teach how to balance recall and precision, and the importance of relevance to get good results. The emphasis is on practical use of patent classifications, patent citations and name searching to build a collection for an initial state of the art review.
Of course the state of the art changes continually! To complete the course you will learn about keeping up to date with state of the art by setting up technology patent monitoring processes.
