All residents, regardless of their religion, were invited to take part in a communal effort to light up Eddington to mark Diwali, the Indian festival of lights.
Residents joined in from the safety of their own homes by placing lights in their windows or balconies.
Storey’s Field Centre is a community centre and performance arts venue run through a joint venture by Cambridge City Council and the University of Cambridge. It usually hosts a range of community groups and cultural events but has been closed temporarily in line with the UK government’s advice to suppress the spread of Coronavirus.
Diwali is the Indian festival of lights. One of the most popular festivals of Hinduism, Diwali symbolizes the spiritual “victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance”.
Warren Forsyth, Operations Director of Eddington said: “We wish everyone a very happy Diwali. We want to continue to provide events to bring our community together through the Coronavirus pandemic. We hope by lighting up the Storey’s Field Centre we brought the lights of Diwali to Eddington safely.”
