Anglia Ruskin students have dominated the Cambridge MCCU line-up – which also includes players from the University of Cambridge – for the three-day match this week, one of three such matches to be played at Fenner’s Cricket Ground in the city before the start of the 2017 season.

Calum Guest, Joe Tetley, Misem Zaidi, Adil Tahir Arif, Drew Brierley, Luke Chapman, Harrison Palmer, Sam Rippington, Adam Barton and Akil Greenidge are the Anglia Ruskin students in the Cambridge MCCU line-up for the match with Nottinghamshire.

Sports Science student Chapman (pictured) in particular enjoyed the first day’s play on Tuesday, taking six wickets on his Cambridge MCCU debut as the visitors were bowled out for 339.

The visitors included England seam bowler Stuart Broad, currently ranked seventh best test bowler in the world, in their line-up.

Anglia Ruskin University’s High Performance Sport Co-ordinator, James Barclay, said: “These first-class matches provide a great opportunity for some of our students to make a name for themselves and to test themselves against international-quality players.

“For Anglia Ruskin to be so well represented in the Cambridge MCCU team is terrific and shows the commitment being made to high-performance sport. It’s also a chance for our fellow students to pop along and support their peers at Fenner’s, which is a two-minute walk from our East Road campus.”

Following this week’s match against Nottinghamshire, the team face Lancashire on Sunday 2 until Tuesday 4 April – where they may come up against fast bowler and record England wicket taker James Anderson. The final first-class match comes against Middlesex from Friday 7 until Sunday 9 April.
