Take part in Addenbrooke's New Year charity challenges

Interested in running? Looking for a charity challenge this year? Or are you just keen to have an incentive to get fit? Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT) has two remaining charity places available for the 2013 Brighton Marathon in April and also has a range of five other charity challenges coming up in 2013 – all experienced or budding runners are invited to take part to help support patient care at Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie hospitals.

Brighton Marathon – Sunday 14 April 2013

The Brighton Marathon takes place in the town of Brighton, East Sussex, taking in iconic sites such as the Brighton Pavilion, and the scenic coast road, with panoramic views of the English Channel. The Brighton Marathon is now closed for general entries so runners wanting to participate will need to take up a charity place.

There are two Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust places available, which must be filled by 1 March 2013. Runners are asked to raise a minimum of £500 in sponsorship.

Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT) participant, Jon Swainson, said: “I am delighted to be running the Brighton Marathon for ACT to support Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie. I want say thank you for the outstanding treatment my wife is receiving at Addenbrooke’s for relapsing polychondritis – a rare autoimmune disease which deteriorates cartilage. I have run two 100km ultra-marathons in recent years but this will be my first marathon, so I’m very excited to be running for such a special cause.”

Other charity runs taking place are:

Cambridge Boundary Run 3 March 2013

An Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust team of runners is taking part in the Cambridge Boundary run this year to raise £10,000 in aid of patients treated for cancer at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. There are half marathon and full marathon options. All are welcome to join the team and registration is provided free of charge.

London Marathon – Sunday 21 April 2013

Do you have a place in the London marathon? Are you still considering running for charity? Then why not consider supporting your local hospitals Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie. All money raised will help support patients in areas of urgent and need across the hospitals, or if you prefer you can choose to support a ward, clinic or department close to your heart.

Thames Path Challenge    Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September 2013

The Thames Path Challenge features a choice of 100km or 50km walks or runs along the Thames from Putney in south west London to Henley in Surrey.

Participants can walk or run as an individual or as a team. An Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust team, the Rosie Ramblers, is supporting the Rosie Hospital and other participants are invited to support an araea of their choice at the hospitals.

Great North Run – Sunday 15 September 2013

A team of budding runners, The Harston Mums, will be off to Newcastle in September to take part in the 13 mile Great North Run. The Harston Mums are running for Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust in aid of the Rosie Hospital. Currently a team of four, they hope to enter a team of 10, and welcome any keen runners to join them.

 Britain V Cancer Desert Trek – Friday 15 - Friday 22 November 2013

Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust currently has two people taking part in this five day desert trek in Jordan to raise money for cancer services at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. This unique event, which starts at the Dead Sea and finishes in the red rock city of Petra, costs £1200 to participate and has a minimum sponsorship of £2500.
