Take the route to success on Roadshow bus

Students across the East of England can benefit from expert advice as Anglia Ruskin University’s Roadshow bus aims to help young people make the right choices ahead of progressing into Higher Education.

A recent report by the Association of Colleges found that of 2,000 pupils of secondary school age surveyed, just 49% felt they were well informed about choices available to them when they leave school.

The Roadshow bus, organised by Anglia Ruskin’s Outreach & Recruitment team, will be heading to schools, colleges and community events across Essex, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, East London and Norfolk over the next month.

Stopping for a full day at every school en route, the team will host a series of talks and workshops on issues such as choosing the right course, developing skills for academic success, and managing student finances. Current Anglia Ruskin students will also be on hand to offer impartial advice.

The double-decker bus will feature a lounge downstairs where students can relax and find out more about life at university.  Upstairs, a mock-up student kitchen and bedroom will give a feel for what it is like to live on-campus.

The striking exterior of the bus offers an artist’s impression of Anglia Ruskin’s Cambridge and Chelmsford campuses and was designed by an Anglia Ruskin graduate.

As well as giving a flavour of university life, the aim is to inform students, parents and teachers what is involved when applying for university and share the many benefits of Higher Education.

Emma Seward, Outreach & Recruitment Officer at Anglia Ruskin, said: “These young people are approaching a crossroads in their lives and it is important they make the correct decision on how to go forward.

“The bus offers visitors a taste of what life at university is like and is a relaxed and friendly environment for students to ask questions about Higher Education. We are visiting more than 30 schools during the summer tour alone and are thrilled that we have this opportunity to speak to so many students, teachers and parents.”

For its second week on the road, the Anglia Ruskin Roadshow will be at Duxford’s Imperial War Museum for its Military Vehicle Show. It will then stop off at Comberton Sixth Form near Cambridge on 16 June, before heading to Eastbrook School in Dagenham on 17 June. It will temporarily become a teachers’ lounge for the Cambridgeshire UCAS Convention on 18 June, which is being held at Anglia Ruskin’s Cambridge campus. On 19 June the bus travels to Harlow College and then calls in to the Galaxy Centre in Basildon on 20 June.
